Yeah so my car started making a weird ticking noise yesterday. First it was only when I was in 3rd gear, then moved to 4th. Later that day it did it in all gears. It doesnt sound like an engine tick because theres no pattern to it or anything, and its not coming from the engine at idle. Only time I get it is when Im moving, so first I checked the brakes to see if anything might be loose there, but had no luck. What could cause ticking in a transmission? Does that sound like a synchro went bad or anything like that? I know nothing about tranny's and its really a loud horrifying ticking noise. Any ideas?
Oh yeah, also I havnt been hard on the car at all... it just started doing this during normal everyday driving.

Use a stethescope (sp?), and positively identify the location. Doesn't sound like a synchr.

its weird, the tranny shifts fine... smooth and everything. It doesnt feel abnormal, like i get no excessive vibrations through the shifter or anything... i just dont know. I cant get a positive ID on where the noise is coming from either since the car has to be moving for me to hear it. I cant check it and drive it at the same time... and my buddies dont know how to drive a stick to help me out.

Check the obvious, crawl underneath and look around, maybe you picked something up off the road and it's tangled in your front yoke or something. Or something came loose and is contacting something it shouldn't be?

That's why you jack it up first. :smack:
Take off the shifter console and the rubber boot too. Then drive the car to see if you can get a better pinpoint of the sound.
