He Eric, if you want, I could probably get away with "loaning" out a pair of my stock bullet wheels for you to run on for the summer? They are 17x8 but you can fit a nice 275x40x17 M/T DR on them real nice and have no problems with traction issues!!! Lemme know!!:2up:

You might also look at www.Summitracing.com (http://www.Summitracing.com) they carry some cheap wheels if you just have to have 17x9.

I thought about buying some of those 17x9 steel crager series 397 wheels in black...but I think I like Kingers idea! Thanks for the info Kyle.

Actually, I will throw them in the car tomorrow and take them on out to STP, or I will bring them Saturday, either way, you can borrow them!! They still have the factory tires on them, so could you do me a favor and save them when you get the DR's installed??? LOL (I might need them sometime???)

I wouldnt run a 275 tire on an 8" rim especially on the track. A 275 series tire is too wide for the 8" rim. Yes, it will mount up but the narrow rim will pull the sidewalls inwards and bow the tread in the middle of the tire outwards. Tire wear will be uneven as the middle of the tire will wear out long before the outside tread. I tried this on 17x8s and ended up buying a set of 17x9s so I could mount 275s up the right way.

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong with your comments! I ran all year on 275x40x17 BFG DR's on 8" rims. Most of the guys with Mustangs that race on DR's use the 275 tire with the 8" rim. You will not wear the tire uneven, it will be wore out straight across the entire tire. If the tire was narrow and you raced it, the tread would be uneven due to the bow in the tire, but with a wide tire, it is a very even wear! I raced with 13-14psi in the tire and drove around with 30psi. Talk to any Mustang racer who runs on 17x8 rims, 275 is the best way to go, and they will last, I still ran 1.76 60' with cords showing cause my tires were worn flat and NOT uneven!

I was refering to drag racing, road racing may be different??? Almost every drag racer I know who has 8" rims runs 275 tires! I guess that is why 275 is the most popular tire for an 8" rim??? So there is no "whatever I say is right", it's just facts from the majority of drag racers!

It wouldn't hurt to have a 9 inch rim but it's all about air pressure...u go too low and it will bow a little. Go to high and it will wear in the center...I don't care...at least they wll be stickier than Pirelli P7000's AND they are free for the summer. And what Jeff says is gospel...(mostly because he's letting me borrow them) :slap:

I wasn't trying to come across as an a-hole, but most people that don't know to bring DR air pressure down to 13-14psi while racing, might have issues with tread life and uneven wear! I stated that I ran at that psi and had no problems, and other drag racers have no problems! But, when you see guys racing at 20+psi tire pressure, yeah, they might have issues!
