Well I have a 99 mustang GT with around 77k miles on it. It has heads/cams if that makes any difference. Anyway I heard a louder ticking noise coming from the right head (if you are in the drivers seat) Its much louder when its cold, but when the engine warms up its a little more quiet, but still noticeable.

I had a buddy that had a simialr noise, that turned out to be an exhaust manifold gasket. The only thing wrong with this assumption, it sounds like my tick is at the top of the head.

Any ideas?

My suggestion is to buy a stethoscope. Pretty cheap at any tool store - and a good investment for future noises. If you find the noise is in the exhaust, great. If it's in the head, you may want to remove the valve cover to inspect valves, springs, rockers... for any looseness or wear. Do you think it's coming from the front? Make sure the T-chain is not slapping. Good Luck!
