View Full Version : Intercooling Suggestions?

I currently have a Vortech V2 SQ running at ~12 lbs boost on a forged bottom end. I've been told by a few that I should consider throwing on an intercooler to cool things down a bit.
Does anyone have any intercooler suggestions? Should I go with one of those snow/meth setups? And I realize the battery has to be relocated, any recommended battery relocation kits out there?
This is on a daily driver (~12 miles per day) with very limited track duty. I just got done suffering through an engine rebuild, so I don't want to spend a ton of money on a setup.
Many Thanks!

if you have the money intercool it, if you want to have the same results for a couple hundred bucks, alcohol is the way to go. The Snow kits work great.

You can buy intercoolers really cheap any more. I dont have the link available to me at this time, due to me being at work, but there are websites on the internet that sell the intercoolers, and plumbing at reasonable prices. Do a google search. Im sure you can find something.

IMHO I would install an intercooler, and then get a CO2 spray bar to freeze the intercooler.

Isn't a Meth kit only good when you energize it, like Nitrous? I'd go with a Vortech aftercooler kit Like Kinger on here has...(speaking of which, he may need a buyer...since he is going the Turbo route!!???) So, that may be your cheap way to go. Liquid cooled is the way to go...I have a Kit I am developing for my Liquid cooled system. It adds a bigger Tank and relocates it to stay outta the heat of the engine bay AND another secret goodie!!! If you get an after cooler system, I can get you the add-on tank (for more coolant capacity) and get a system developed for a Vortech aftercooler system at a Research and Development kinda cost..IE:>>>> cheap :2up:
PM me for details....

saleen guru - yes it is only on when you energize it but you are only in boost when you stand on it right? Most meth injection kits use boost pressure as a switch. on under boost off the rest of the time. most all your heat is built under boost not just idling around.
I have a homemade Meth kit on Ugly. I want an intercooler on it as well :2up:

Air to Air is easy AND effective. My inlet temps never exceed 92 degrees no matter what time of year or how hard I flog it. No mess, no liquids or ice to refill, etc. Snow kit on top would be cool too. Also don't have to re-locate your battery.

Thanks for all your suggestions :2up:
It sounds like a two prong approach is ideal with an intercooler and something like a meth kit?
My previous engine ended up with some collapsed/britle piston rings, even though we think it was getting plenty of fuel. So I mainly want something safe so I don't go through that again. I'm leaning towards an air-to-air intercooler for now, until the speed bug bites me deeper. Is there a good setup I can go with for less than say, $800 or so? (I'm on "modification probation" from the wife for several more months) I've looked around the web and seem some pricy ones, but I would prefer to go with a common or known working system.
