View Full Version : New Rules for Racing!

There is a big long line of rules that will apply to drag racing this year, but a simple breakdown is something like this, which will apply to alot of us.

Any car running an aftermarket Blower, Turbo or N2O "MUST" wear a single layer Fire Jacket for any pass they make on the track. If you run faster then 10.00, you will need a 3 layer suit. Doesn't matter if you run 13's or slower, any car with any of the above stated products must meet this rule!

And no, 03-04 Cobras are not required to wear jackets at this time since they are not running an aftermarket blower!!

Any car running 11.49 or quicker will have to have a cage.

****, I am not looking forward to July and August racing now!! I think I wore shorts and a tee-shirt for the entire NMRA race last year! LOL

ugh, I don't want to wear one. I like the freedom of my shorts.

You guys cry too much. I am to the point that I need to wear the 3 layer jacket and pants along with the gloves. I also need to change my bellhousing, add a tranny shield, and finish out my cage. Then I need to get the cage/chassis certified and apply for a license.

Or I could just sandbag like the rest of the Vamp racers.

Sorry Kyle, if you want I can pull the thread with rules straight from the NHRA track Manager here at KCIR.

In Case You Missed The Banquet, NHRA 2006 RULE CHANGES

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following are rule changes that were reviewed:

NHRA RULE CHANGES FOR 2006
Protective Clothing Changes
The Protective Clothing of the E.T. section of the NHRA Rulebook states which jacket and/or pants are needed for 10.00 and slower and 9.99 and quicker.
Supercharged, turbocharged, or nitous-equiped cars, with or without a full OEM or .024-inch steel firewall. Please review the Protective Clothing sections, Section 1A – Superpro, Pro, Sportsman and Section 1B – Advanced E.T. of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook.

Section 1-A, located on page 24 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook read as follows:
10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. non-OEM supercharged, non-OEM turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars with an OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory

10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) and slower; all E.T. supercharged, turbocharged, or nitrous-equipped cars without a full OEM or .024-inch steel firewall: Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/5 and gloves meeting SFI Spec 3.3/1 mandatory.

10.00 (*6.40 1/8 mile) to 11.49 (*7.35 1/8 mile): Jacket meeting SFI Spec 3.2A/1 mandatory.

The same Spec for Advanced E.T. is located in Section 1B, located on page #27 of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook.

What’s Needed At 135 mph?
For 2006, the Rulebook clarifies that any vehicle that runs faster than 135 mph must meet minimum requirements for 9.99 –seconds. In year’s past, this 9.99 and/or 135 mph break was not clearly defined in the e.t. section of the rulebook, leading to some confusion.
The minimum requirements for any vehicle that runs 9.99 or runs faster than 135 mph includes an NHRA chassis certification, NHRA competition license, and upgraded safety equipment (neck collar, jacket and pants, and gloves).
Further details about the 9.99 requirements may be found in Section 1A – Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman section of the 2006 NHRA Rulebook, beginning on page #18.

Computers
During NHRA competition, no portable computer (e.g., laptop, PDA, Palm Pilot, programmer, ect.) may be used or located in a vehicle at any point beyond the staging area ready line. All functions or values must be pre-set prior to this point. This includes Grudge Race and Time Trial runs.

Yes! Since KCIR and HPT are NHRA tracks, all rules apply to any pass made on the tracks, even for private rented track events!

And they wonder why pep street race......

I could under stand if you raced your car more than a couple times a year. My car is a street driver, who wants to spend a load on safety equipment when you only go that fast once or twice a year..... NO ONE!

They need to make a rule that you can run your car for like a few days a year with no safety equipment other than what is required by your states law for every day street licensed and insured cars(which it would have to be). Maybe you could sign a form that if anything happened(not saying it ever would), that the track would prosecute you for trespassing and turn you into your insurance company for racing which would void your insurance.

Just a thought late at night :Computer_Smiley:

We are able to get jackets from Vamp for around $60.00. Colors are red, blue and black, all with white lettering and stripes. Have a list over on PB, but I can add to it from here if anyone is interested. It's not really a group buy or anything, just getting colors and sizes and how many for Dave so he knows what kind of order he is going to need to make. The price could come down a little, but who knows how much?? Once he orders them you will be on your own as far as buying it and picking it up from Vamp, this is just a list for people who are wanting one and will buy one that they prefer!

Just let me know what color and size and I can add you to the list.

Thanks
